esp32-c3-adblock stores DNS blocklists as 40-bit hashes in ESP32-C3 flash, no PSRAM required
Zed's MIT-licensed esp32-c3-adblock turns an ESP32-C3 with 4 MB flash and no PSRAM into a Pi-hole-style DNS sinkhole. The creator reports about 141k domains in about 0.67 MB of flash, up to about 250k with firmware OTA and about 537k without it.

KryonOS brings a JavaScript app runtime and Wi-Fi app store to ESP32 and ESP32-S3 touchscreen boards
KryonOS, a GPL-3.0 GUI operating system and Duktape-based JavaScript app runtime by developer Haris, runs on ESP32 and ESP32-S3 boards and installs apps from an on-device store over Wi-Fi. The v2.0.1 security release adds app sandboxing and SHA-256 checks on store packages. Three of the five board targets are still experimental.

CMU's OATs turn an ESP32-S3 e-paper board into Tamagotchi-style 'twins' for plants, fridges and heaters
Carnegie Mellon's Object-Agent Twins (OATs), a UIST 2026 research project, clip a Waveshare ESP32-S3 e-paper board and sensors onto everyday objects and show a Gemini-generated character whose mood follows the sensor readings. No design files have been released.

Hack the North open-sources its ESP32 badge: 1,750 boards, a Lua runtime and lessons from four spins
Hack the North organiser Nicholas Ficara has open-sourced the ESP32 badge built for 1,750 hackers at the 18 September event (KiCad files, GPL-3.0 C firmware with a Lua runtime, and a WebAssembly emulator) and detailed what went wrong across EVT, DVT and PVT.

ESP-SDR firmware uses an undocumented I/Q capture path to make ESP32 chips receive-only SDRs
The ESPARGOS project's GPL-licensed ESP-SDR firmware reads raw I/Q samples from an undocumented path in the ESP32 family's own receiver. It captures at up to 80 MS/s in bursts and comes with a browser spectrum tool. The ESP32-S3 adds gap-free decimated streaming, and the ESP32-S31 adds experimental streaming.

LakeShark firmware turns LilyGO's ESP32-P4 T-Display P4 into a handheld P25, ADS-B and pager scanner
Samuel Reynolds' GPL-3.0 LakeShark firmware, now at v2.15, uses a USB RTL-SDR Blog V3 or V4 to make LilyGO's ESP32-P4 T-Display P4 decode P25 Phase I, FM/AM, POCSAG and 1090 MHz ADS-B, and adds MeshCore over the onboard SX1262. P25 Phase II and HackRF support remain experimental.

LR2021-SDR: an open-source project turns Semtech's LoRa transceiver into a 100 MHz to 2.74 GHz I/Q radio
SAMS0N1TE's experimental GPL-3.0 LR2021-SDR library reads raw 16-bit I/Q from Semtech's LR2021 over SPI. On one ESP32-P4 board, the author reports receive from 100 MHz to 2.74 GHz and clean captures at up to 250,000 samples/s.
